Known for her captivating stage presence, innovative concept-based choreographies, strong academic background, and commendable teaching abilities, Dr. Tina Tambe is a distinguished performer, teacher, and choreographer in the field of Indian classical dance.
As an accomplished artist, she has enthralled audiences across India and internationally in countries such as the United Kingdom, Greece, Japan, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka. Her authority in both the technical and expressional aspects of Kathak makes her performances a perfect blend of powerful footwork, graceful hand, and body movements, touching expressional pieces, and innovative themes. Her deep knowledge of both the theoretical and practical aspects of Kathak ensures that her presentations are meaningful, well-rounded, and thoroughly enjoyable for viewers. Dr. Tina Tambe is the recipient of an 'A' grade from Doordarshan and a Scholarship from the Government of India. She co-authored the book Kathak Shastra Darshan-2, published by Gandharva Mahavidyalay Mandal, Mumbai. Her accolades include the Madhya Pradesh Ratna Award, Bhoj Kala Samman, Nalanda Nritya Nipun Puraskar, Nupur Kalaratna Award, Pandit Kartikram Kalanidhi Puraskar, and Singarmani, among others. She holds an Nritya Alankar and an M.A. in Classical Dance, and she was awarded a Ph.D. for her research on the dance elements in the poetry of Meera in the context of Kathak. As a young performer Dr. Tina has been a winner of one National level, two Zonal levels, and one State-level Inter-University Youth Festivals in the Classical Solo Dance category. Through her creative vision she has choreographed various thematic dance productions such as Rasanayika, Ritu-Shringar: A Saga of Seasons, Ashtanayika-Ashtataal, Pratikriti: Kathak in Hindi Cinema, Yugma, Krishnarpanamastu, Draupadi ki Pratigya, and Shakti among others. Dr. Tambe's dance company, Ninad Group, is the performing unit of the Ninad Center for Performing Arts. Ninad Group has successfully performed at various prestigious dance festivals in India and abroad, including the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival (Mumbai), Kalidas Festival (Ujjain), NCPA (Mumbai), Sanskriti Arts Festival (Thane), India Habitat Centre (New Delhi), Devi Ahilya University (Indore), Baiju Bawra Festival (Chanderi), C.M. House and Bharat Bhawan (Bhopal), Janmashtami Utsav (New Delhi), IIM Indore, Sangeet-Yog Diwas (Gwalior), ICCR (Sri Lanka), and Diwali Carnival (Malaysia), as well as at various corporate and private events across India. Dr. Tina Tambe serves as the Artistic Director of the Ninad Center for Performing Arts, located in Vile Parle East, Mumbai, where she teaches Kathak to over 100 students. Over the past 17 years, more than two dozen students have graduated from her institute, many of whom are successfully pursuing careers as performers, teachers, and choreographers. She has also conducted workshops with senior and renowned dance gurus at her institute. To provide a platform for artists, she organizes concerts under the Ninad Concert Series, showcasing performances of both established and upcoming dancers from India and abroad. Since 2010, more than 80 artists have performed in these concerts till now. Dr. Tambe is a registered teacher and examiner for Gandharva Mahavidyalay Mandal, Mumbai, and a member of the Judges Panel with the Association of Indian Universities. She is regularly invited to judge various prestigious competitions. Apart from her dance career, Dr. Tambe has acted in TV serials such as Chittor Ki Rani Padmini Ka Johur and Powder on Sony TV, and the Marathi serial Avghachi Sansar on Zee Marathi. She has worked as a radio jockey on Akashavani's educational channel Gyan Vani, anchored shows on Indore Doordarshan, and dubbed English documentary films into Marathi for DD Sahyadri Channel. She was also featured as a dancer in a National Award-winning Documentary film on Mandavgadh in Madhya Pradesh and in the first video album of Meet Brothers, Boond, on Zee Music. |
Accolades & Achievements:
Productions: Tina has choreographed a full length ballet called RituShringaar based on Kalidasa’s Ritu Samharam, and has put up successful performances all over India,applauded by class as well as mass audiences. She has choreographed 15 compositions of Saint Poet Meerabai for her research work, which was highly appreciated by the panel of examiners. She also choreographs new dance items and theme based dance pieces on varied subjects for various recitals to add freshness and innovation to each and every performance
